About Me

by yogini13 @ 3:17 am

I was born too late to be a flower child, but will always be one at heart–even though it took me a while to set her loose again. I’ve never wanted to be part of the “establishment,” but fell right smack dab in the middle of it when I became a licensed psychologist/school psychologist! I like to think that my Bohemian side eases the edge a bit for the students that I work with.

I began practicing yoga and exploring Eastern Philosophy at the age of twelve–probably surprised my Southern Baptist parents to the very core! I’m sure that they were thinking, “Where did this child come from anyway?” But instead of continuing my yoga practice, I decided to be a cheerleader instead…yikes! What was I thinking? But luckily, my life path guided me back to my practice almost 8 years ago and I haven’t looked back since. In addition to rediscovering my own practice, I became a yoga teacher as well and I’ve been teaching for the past 6 years at At One Yoga in Scottsdale, Arizona.

In 2006, I decided to walk my talk and I founded the karma yoga project as a vehicle to raise money for nonprofit groups that make the world a better place for all beings. I began teaching yoga workshops to raise money for several organizations–also made a DVD (Flow and Yin: A Balanced Yoga Practice) with the help of some of my lovely yoga students and At One Yoga. Now it’s time for me to take the next step and instead of just raising money so that other people can do amazing things–I want to get my hands dirty so to speak and do the amazing things myself!

It’s always been my desire to make the world a better place–but got sidetracked because of my competing desire to make everyone else happy. But now it’s my turn to follow my bliss and my heart wherever it leads me–and making the world a better place IS my path. So I begin my journey this summer. I’m taking the long way to Ethiopia–through California, New Zealand, Australia, and Hawaii–but I will get there. And I hope that you will join me on my journey as I rediscover myself and my path.

Wishing you freedom, love, and much happiness on your path,

Donna
